It’s very important to properly recover after root canal treatment. If you fail to heal the way you should, you could suffer inconvenient and troublesome consequences. So, our dentist, Dr. James Hargas, strongly encourages you to take the recovery process seriously. To help you do so, he recommends doing the following things:

-Manage your pain: Your mouth will be numb after treatment, but once the numbness wears away, you might feel some discomfort in the treated tooth. You can dull or eliminate the discomfort by taking the prescribed medications your dentist provided or by taking over-the-counter pain medications. You can also use an ice pack to reduce pain and swelling.

-Clean the area: It’s best to keep the surgical site clean and free of infection by brushing twice a day and flossing once a day. You can also rinse with alcohol-free mouthwash if you desire.

-Schedule your dental crown appointment: Typically, dental crowns are needed to support the tooth after treatment. So, make sure to schedule your restoration appointment as soon as possible so you can have the fully functional tooth you need. Until your appointment, it’s best to avoid chewing with your tooth as much as possible.
